WHO WE ARE

It is our desire as a church to be upwardly focused, worshipping the Triune God (believing), inwardly focused, seeking to shepherd the needs of our members (living) and outwardly focused, seeking to love and care for our community and the world around us (sharing). We would love to have you come and visit us in person, to join us for worship or our other weekly activities. You will find contact information at the bottom of this page.

OUR PASTOR and HIS WIFE-

Greg and Ruthanna Marshall

Rev. W. Gregory Marshall is the youngest son of a career military officer (now deceased). He grew up in various places around the US and the world and called Virginia home but now sees South Carolina as his home after almost 30 years. Upon graduating from high school overseas in 1988, he attended and graduated from Covenant College on Lookout Mt. GA in 1992. Greg’s first job after college was as the youth director at Ebenezar ARP in Rock Hill, SC. After graduating from RTS in Charlotte with a Masters of Divinity, Greg spent many years ministering to youth in the PCA before he came to Temple in the winter of 2019 to fill the pulpit. He fell in love with the people and accepted a call as Temple’s fourth pastor in the fall of the same year. His bride, Ruthanna, a native of Charlotte, NC and the daughter of a former PCA pastor, helps him in many of the day to day operations of the church. She is a trained teacher and home schools their four children; Timothy, Jonathan, Annagrace and Caleb. As a family they love to run, hike, read, watch movies, and spend time with their two dogs, Ranger and Skye. Their heart is for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Christian education, and the communities of York County .

History of the church

Temple Presbyterian Church In America

Our church and denomination came about through a sincere desire to maintain the integrity of the Lord’s church. In 1973 a new denomination was formed (the Presbyterian Church in America), and a core group from another local church would join this new denomination in 1975 to form Temple PCA.  For two and a half years, Temple met in school buildings and on special occasions used space in another local PCA church.  In the beginning its people raised money to build their own sanctuary.  Mrs. Marie Templeton donated the property on which to build the church.  (Details taken from a history of Temple written by Elder Tom Clark who is now with the Lord).

“The PCA began with a goal to be a denomination that is ‘Faithful to the Scriptures, True to the Reformed Faith, and Obedient to the Great Commission.’”

— The Presbyterian Church in America is a newer denomination with deep roots back to Scottish Presbyterianism and the Reformation. We came into being on December 4, 1973 after many were concerned with a drifting toward theological liberalism in many denominations across the US at that time. The PCA, was formed with a desire to exalt God as God and to see His Word faithfully interpreted and taught.
